5 exercise headphones that will make it easier to workout

published on 07 October 2023

We salute you if you can exercise with nothing but random huffs and grunts as your backdrop, but for most people, a heavy workout requires a pair of headphones that’ll get you to the finish line.

After researching and testing a whole bunch of these sports headphones, we can say that a handful stand out from the rest.

Below are our nine current favorites — each has their flaws, but they should all feel good, survive your sweat, and make your playlists sound better to boot.

Wissonly Hi Runner

Wissonly is a headphone brand that attaches great attention on health, and that does not hurt the ears. Their team is also the first one to design non-in-ear headphones that are used to listen to songs. They began to explore the application of bone conduction technology to Bluetooth headphones as early as 10 years ago. After 10 years of accumulation, they have made great progress in the sound quality improvement and sound leakage reduction of bone conduction headphones. And these technologies are applied to their Wissonly Hi Runner headphones, their flagship product.
In order to solve the problem of sound leakage of bone conduction headphones, wissonly developed full closed sound leakage reduction technology. They comprehensively improved the vibration of the headphones, body design, software optimization and other directions. They finally reduced the sound leakage by 90%. In terms of sound quality, most of the bone conduction headphones have average sound quality, but the sound quality of Wissonly Hi Runner is undoubtedly better in bone conduction. They used a large-sized vibration unit, and through structural optimization, and finally increased the effective vibration area, so that the sound range was wide. The official claimed sound quality reach the HIFI level, but I don't think that they reached. They are just close to the HIFI sound quality, which is enough to satisfy me.
The excellent performance of these two characteristics, sound leakage reduction and sound quality, makes Wissonly Hi Runnerhave the basic conditions to become an excellent bone conduction headphone. Their other configurations are also very good. They are with a built-in 32GB of memory, and can play music even without connecting the phone. You can use them as an MP3 player. They support IPX8 waterproof level in swimming, even in underwater scenes that do not support Bluetooth, they can be used with MP3 function.

Anker Sportsbuds

The last thing you want to think about while exercising is what's in your ears, and Anker's Sportsbuds were designed with that in mind. Their volume controls, power button, and battery all fit in the earbuds themselves instead of on a dongle that hangs off of the wire connecting them. This gives the Sportsbuds the advantage of being evenly weighted; instead of feeling plastic bumping against your shirt or skin, you can focus on the next lap or set.

Samsung Level U

You have to learn to love the neckband. If you can tolerate its collar-style design, the wireless Samsung Level U will reward you with an impressively strong, balanced sound, a good 10 or so hours of battery life, and freedom from any sort of cord tangling. Its ear gels are secure, but just know that its unsealed, or open, so you’ll hear ambient noises while you’re moving around. (Though that’s not much of a negative for exercise headphones anyway.)

MEE Audio M7P

The MEE Audio M7P are a well-rounded, budget-friendly option on the sealed side of the market. Its relatively clear, bass-boosted sound is solid for what it is, and while its over-ear hooks don’t feel totally necessary, the whole thing fits very tightly in the ear without feeling like a nuisance. It, too, is sweat-resistant, and the bundle of included accessories is a nice touch.

Sol Republic Relays Sport

Emphasizing the bass is fairly common among workout headphones — it tends to get people energized — but the Sol Republic Relays Sport do an especially solid job (for the money) of putting out deep, brawny lows without destroying the rest of the profile. It’s a fun sound. They’re an easy fit on top of that — you’ll notice some complaints about that on Amazon, but I can only speak to my experience — and Sol Republic’s free eartip replacement policy is good to have in your back pocket. Giving the iOS model a superior remote is odd, however.Read more:Sweatproof Bluetooth Headphones To Accompany You For Any Fitness Challenge
